Dear Parents,

We are almost there! I am sure you are experiencing the same whirlwind that is the end of the year as we are here at DES. Between retirement celebrations, multiple end of the year events, and wrapping up the school year, it has been quite the ride. I wanted to take this time to remind you of some upcoming events as well as to reminisce a bit about our three retirees.

The 6th grade promotion ceremony will take place on Monday, June 15th in the community center at 6:30. Our Artist in Residence evening performance for the community will be Tuesday, June 16th at 7:00. All are welcome to attend as the subject of the event will be the history of Dunbarton in honor of Dunbarton’s 250th anniversary celebration. The Spring Fling/Field Day will be June 17th. Move Up Day/ last day of school will be June 18th at 10:00. Students will be dismissed at 12:15. There will not be any after school program on the last day of school. If you believe your child(ren) may have items in Lost and Found, please try to look through them before the 18th as all items will be donated following the 18th.

We do have three retirees this year. Mrs. Lauwers will be retiring at the end of this year. Mrs. Lauwers is one of our special education teachers. She has done a marvelous job working to meet the needs of all students and has such a calm and supportive nature about her. She will certainly be missed. Mrs. Brightman is also retiring at the end of this year. Mrs. Brightman taught second and most recently fourth grade at DES. Mrs. Brightman was a strong proponent for the inclusion of all students in her classroom. I know this became the mantra of her career as well as her classroom. She did a great job giving the students a well-rounded education. Mrs. Pierson also retired this year. Mrs. Pierson taught fifth and third grade. Mrs. Pierson was always calm, cool and collected. She understood and respected the many differences of all kids and accepted them for who and what they are. We will miss them all as they each brought strong education experience and drive to succeed to the DES table.

I hope you all enjoy the last week of school.

Sincerely,

Owen Harrington
