Welcome to the Dunbarton Elementary School (DES) Principal’s Page. It is my goal to periodically update this page to keep parents and the community at large informed about the various happenings at DES.

As mentioned in the letter home to parents, today, October 7th, marked the beginning of NECAP testing at DES. Students in grades 3-6 will be tested in math and reading. Fifth graders will also be tested in a separate writing portion of the exam. Thank you to all the parents for ensuring their children are well rested and well fed before school each day of the testing. Thank you to the Dunbarton PTO for sponsoring NECAP snacks, water and mints for the students. In speaking of the PTO, thank you to them for their continued support of staff and students. The PTO book fair was a success with teachers receiving multiple books for their classroom libraries.

I would like to personally thank all the parents for coming out during Open House on September 19th. It is imperative that parents are involved in their children’s education. Not only are involved parents aware of what is happening with their children, but the message that education is important is very clear to the students. I would encourage parents to stay as involved as possible. Staying informed of your child’s learning will solve most problems before they occur and will bring a well rounded approach to your child’s education.

In closing I would like to reemphasize how impressed I am with DES and the town of Dunbarton as a whole. It is clear that the success of DES is a major goal for the town of Dunbarton. It is also clear that although Dunbarton is a small community, there are great things happening. Whether one takes in Old Home Day, the PTO Smores night, Open House, or the various other activities in town one quickly notices how much of a community Dunbarton truly is. It is my goal for DES to continue to be a major facet of the town of Dunbarton and with this in mind I would encourage individuals to contact me should they have any suggestions, questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Owen Harrington

Principal
