It truly seems as though time is really flying. It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of January. Thankfully with some additional snow cover we have been able to make our way back to the regular recess area. I know the students are appreciative as they have much more room to spread out and enjoy their recess time.
I am hoping to use this email to parents as an opportunity to share some budget information and remind you of some upcoming dates and times. The school board has a proposed budget they will be presenting to the public at the upcoming school board meeting on February 3rd at 6:00 p.m.This meeting also serves as the annual budget hearing. During this time the board will be sharing information about their proposed budget and also fielding comments and questions from the public. The budget will not be voted on by the public at this time. In order to vote on the budget, you will need to attend the March 5th Dunbarton School District Budget Hearing. I cannot stress enough that is important to attend these events in order to be knowledgeable about the Dunbarton School District budget as well as to ensure your voice is heard.
We wanted to remind you to be cognizant of potential allergies in your child's classroom when sending in birthday treats. In order to account for this, we would ask that you at the very least contact Mrs.Hast if you plan on sending in any birthday treats so she can ensure for the safety of all students. The DES Wellness Committee also has a list of non-food related ways to celebrate as potential alternatives. They are as follows:
Donate a book to the school library or child's classroom in honor of the birthday with a
personalized gift acknowledgement plate inside.
Donate playground/physical activity equipment- jump ropes, balls, etc.
Celebrate with arts and crafts materials for the classroom. Everyone loves stickers!
Donate a game or activity for indoor recess days in honor of the birthday.
If you would prefer to send in food, some healthy options are as follows:
Visit A-list at the www.johnstalkerinstitute.org/alist/ for food ideas.
Small bottles or cartons of flavored milk, 100% juice, smoothies or water.
Fresh fruit tray-whole, wedges, slices.
Fresh vegetable tray (baby carrots, grape tomatoes, celery sticks, cucumber spears, red & green
bell pepper strips, cauliflower & broccoli florets) with reduced ranch or yogurt-based dip.
String cheese, cheese cubes or slices with whole grain crackers.
Low fat pudding cups, low fat yogurt squeeze packs or cups.
Finger sandwiches or sliced wrap sandwich pinwheels.
Pretzels, low fat popcorn.
Animal crackers, graham crackers, oatmeal raisin cookies.
Mini muffins, banana bread slices, granola bar slices.
Just a reminder there will be a PTO Sponsored sons and mothers tubing event on January 30th at Macintyre Ski Area. Sign Ups are due this Sunday. Tickets are $12.00 per person and checks should be made out to the Dunbarton PTO. To reserve your spot(s),please email at email@example.com . All winter activities forms are due to the office by the end of next week. Please be advised that grades 1-3 mini sports and cooking are already full.
In closing, even though we do not send students out when it is less than 20 degrees outside, please remember to send your children with the appropriate winter clothing. It is still cold outside and we want them to be able to go out to recess to play comfortably.
I wish you all the best this weekend.
