Dear Parents,

Even though it was only a four day week, we have had a busy week at DES. Both the upper and lower elementary grades had field trips to the Capitol Center for the Arts. All reports were good and the students had a nice time. We also had a visit from multiple Greek gods and goddesses with the fifth grade hosting two Greek days today and yesterday. It has been a fun and exciting week!

Your child(ren) may have come home this week to tell you that we have had recess in the lower parking lot this week. Although we would prefer not to have recess there, we felt it appropriate due to the icy conditions in the normal recess area. It is our hope that with the snow coming this weekend, we will be able to get out to the recess area next week.

Mrs. Brown is working hard to compile the list of winter activities to get that sent home to you next week. We have some exciting new activities for you, but we also have many of the tried and true activities to choose. Once you receive the list, please fill out and return the form as soon as possible so we can make sure your child(ren) is able to be in a preferred activity.

The DES budget process is well underway and you will soon have the opportunity to participate. As parents of children in the school, we want to make sure you are aware of the opportunity to come out to learn more about what is being proposed for next year’s budget. Your first opportunity to do so will be February 4th at 6:30. The school board will be holding their monthly meeting which will also serve as their annual budget hearing. This is an opportunity to hear what is in the budget and ask any clarifying questions. The meeting will be held in the DES library. During the meeting Dr. Cascadden will present the overarching goals of the budget and the school board will present the specifics of the budget as well as the big picture.

Just a reminder that the PTO dough raiser is this weekend. Please bring your coupon to a Constantly Pizza location so 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the PTO. You can also print out coupons here:http://dunbartonpto.com/files/2013/11/pizza-for-pto-coupon1.pdf . In addition, we wanted to remind you that the Snowflake Supper will be held on Saturday, February 7th at 5:30 in the Community Center. The PTO food drive will start on February 2nd. All donations will be given to the Dunbarton Congregational Church to benefit the town of Dunbarton.

As always, thank you for your support and feel free to contact your child’s teacher or any of us should you have any questions or concerns.
