I hope everyone had a great Halloween. It sounds like the annual event on the town common was well attended. My understanding is it was one of the best Spooktaculars of all time! I am sure all the students who attended had a wonderful time. I also wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came out for the CIC Forum on the DES building project. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend, but I hear it was extremely informative and some great questions were asked. Thank you to all of you who came out to better understand the project and why it is being proposed.
Thanks to Sarah Murray, DES technology aide, we have a new tab on our website devoted to the building project. I would encourage you to visit the page so you can see the documents that have been posted. Currently, there are three documents: an RFP for architectural and engineering services, an RFP for construction manager services, and the On Site Insight Capital Needs report. All of these documents are informative in their own right. When I am provided with digital copies of the plans and other materials I will get those posted as well. I would encourage all your Dunbarton friends and acquaintances to visit this site as the fate of this project will have an impact on them one way or the other. Feel free to share this link with anyone you feel would benefit from the information. I would also encourage you to continue to come out for any Dunbarton School Board presentations as well as any CIC presentations related to the project as those will be very informative and will provide a forum for you to ask questions.
At the most recent school board meeting, the initial drafts of the 2018-2019 school year budget were shared. It is very early in the process so I won’t go into any great detail, but as you can imagine the building project is a major focus. Another major focus is all-day kindergarten. Again, I would encourage you to continue to follow this as time goes on. The Dunbarton School Board, SAU 67 administration and DES administration will work together to craft a budget that best meets the needs of Dunbarton students as well as being mindful of the cost to the Dunbarton taxpayers. The February 7th Dunbarton School Board meeting will be the Dunbarton School District Budget Forum. Between now and then I will continue to reach out with information as I have it. I would also encourage you to attend school board meetings as well as to contact your school board representatives if you have any questions about the budget or the process.
Just a reminder that the annual PTO Harvest Moon Supper is tomorrow from 4:30 to 6:30. If you have not attended this event before, I would encourage you to attend. The food is excellent (thanks to the efforts of the Constant Family) and the company of fellow Dunbartonians is even better. I am sure you and yours will enjoy themselves. There is a huge assortment of raffle baskets this year, stuffed with all sorts of goodies for you to bid on. And remember, everything goes to support the Artist in Residence Program at DES.
If you still have your Yankee Candle order form, you can turn it in on Monday. The 6th Grade appreciates the support of the school community for their Field Trip in June.
Looking ahead to next week, we want to remind you that Thursday the 9th is an Early Release day ending at 12:15 pm. The students still eat lunch at the school. We will also have a Veteran's Day assembly that morning. There is no school on Friday for Parent/Teacher conferences. Mrs. Westenberg has a copy of each teacher’s Parent/Teacher Conference schedule, so feel free to call the office to confirm your appointment time.
Don’t forget to fall back this Sunday, as Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 am on the 5th.
We all want to wish our very own 2nd-grade teacher, Mrs. Campbell, and our School Nurse, Mrs. Hast, the very best of luck as they compete in the NYC marathon this Sunday. And to keep in the spirit of exercise, do consider participating in the “Get Out and Walk” event at BHS on Sunday afternoon. Registration starts at 1:30 pm.
